Emily Gravett
A recent graduate of Brighton University, Emily Gravett's debut as a children's author/illlustrator, Wolves (2005), is a witty homage to the act of reading and using libraries - as well as a cautionary tale.
It was awarded the 2004 Macmillan Prize for Illustration. These detailed, expressive and beautifully produced pencil-and-crayon illustrations are typical of her style.
Her second book, Orange Pear Apple Bear (2006), a rhyming book for the under fives, playfully reworks the simple words of the title into a series of humorous, tender images expressed in a sumptuous loose watercolour and black crayon palette.
Meerkat Mail was published in 2006 followed by Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears and Monkey and Me in 2007, which won the Booktrust Early Years Award.
A former traveller, Emily now lives in Brighton with her partner, their young daughter and the family dog.
