Sophie finds her friend Gidaado in dire need of help when a huge swarm of locusts devastate his family's millet crop. How will he eat? How will his grandmother get the medicine she needs? Gidaado is forced to take a job as a town crier – shouting out descriptions of lost animals in the hope that someone has seen them. But this is highly risky: he only gets paid if the animal in question is found. So, Sophie and Gidaado put their heads together, and with an enterprising combination of dancing sunflowers, homemade CD-making and hard bargaining they plan to save his family's fortune. This, the second in the series about Sophie's life in Africa, is really quite enchanting – sometimes moving, often funny, and constantly entertaining.
